Heathen

Vinum FeRus presents a most exotic pinot noir from the La Cantera vineyard in the world renowned Willamette Valley.

"I named it Heathen because of its wild, lawless, dark and powerful nature." -winemaker Natalie Bowman Lee

The wine

Fermented with native yeasts from the vineyard with 50% whole cluster, this wine has shown superb potential since the beginning stages of fermentation and throughout the cellaring process. Dark fruit is encased in this deep and powerfully structured pinot noir made from the velvety Burgundian clone 777. I initially crushed the grapes with my feet to extract the juice. Once fermentation was in full swing punch downs were done three times a day for ultimate extraction. In the final days of maceration I switched from punch downs to pump overs, which broadens the palette. Aging occurred for fifteen months in 100% neutral French oak. This allows for the full expression of terroir, as pinot noir can only show its true myriad of complexities when it is unadulterated. It will be released on October 1 2017. I named it Heathen because of its wild, lawless, dark and powerful nature. Only 75 cases of this wine have been produced, and it is sold by the case only. Reserve your case now.

Cheers,

Natalie

The Vineyard

The La Cantera has some of the most unique soil in the Willamette Valley. It is a windblown loess named Laurelwood.
