Thank the Heavens the Buds Have Yet to Break: This Week's Exploration in the Vineyards
This morning under crystal clear skies, frost collected. The weather in the Willamette Valley has gone through a theme of rain and cool but not quite chilly temperatures. The heavens have parted to reveal the rare and glorious sunshine over the last 24 hours, and along with that, has wiped away the cloud blanket that helps create another barrier between diurnal swings in temperature.
The good news about this winter's rains is that it has all but wiped out the drought that was forming in the Valley (yes, even Oregon was seeing signs of a drought).
As you can see, the buds are beginning to swell, but have yet to break, which I'm so grateful for. A freeze can kill the majority of a year's crop if it comes at bud break.
