This Week in the Vineyard

The vines have been pruned to two canes per vine. Each cane has around 6 buds on it that will eventually unfurl into a shoot. This picture was taken on one of the precious days of sun this week.

There has been several inches of rain this week but also some lovely sunshine in between the rain drops. This weather is the bearer of rainbows, of which there were hundreds around the valley. Oregon constantly reminds me of a fairy tale, and this week did not disappoint. A powerful storm is set to come in and inundate the West Coast with even more rain! The La Cantera Vineyard is dry farmed meaning there is no irrigation in this vineyard. Winter rains are imperative to saturate the soil as summers are dry up here.

The tiny white part is the sleeping bud. It will begin to swell as temperatures rise.
